Atlanta Kyte – Osteopath
Atlanta Kyte is a graduate of the British School of Osteopathy (2002) and is a registered osteopath. Before becoming an Osteopath she worked as a cellular pathologist conducting scientific research at the University of Cape Town. She was on her way to doing a PHD when she decided to switch careers – swapping a microscope for working with people and studying the dynamic human body and all its magic.
After graduating with a BSc Hons (Osteopathy) she spent two years working in a multi disciplinary clinic in Bristol where she gained experience in treating athletes, some who compete at international and Olympic level. Atlanta’s experience of treating sports men and women has helped her become confident treating all manner of sports injuries. She also volunteered at a retirement home in Portishead and has enjoyed treating elderly patients ever since.
Atlanta worked in London for 11 years in Westminster, Earlsfield and Mayfair. She has worked alongside GP’s and medical consultants gaining valuable clinical and diagnostic skills. Many of her patients in Westminster were MP’s so she also gained valuable diplomatic skills! Atlanta enjoyed working with the medics and educating them about how Osteopathy can help patients, often where modern medicine can’t.
However Oxford is home to Atlanta and she has settled back in the area to live here with her family.
Atlanta has experience in treating and rehabilitating work related disorders such as repetitive strain injuries from computer work and can give advice on office ergonomics. She has also attended a course on whiplash injuries and has had good results in treating chronic injuries.
Atlanta has a specialist interest in pregnancy and loves treating pregnant women! Having 2 children herself she has gained a greater understanding of how Osteopathy can help ease the aches and pains that occur at different stages of pregnancy. She also works with the postpartum mum, helping and supporting them after pregnancy and birth.
Although Atlanta uses mainly structural techniques including joint articulation, manipulation, soft tissue massage and stretching, she also encourages relaxation and uses gentle functional techniques. She has completed courses in ‘visceral osteopathy’ and often incorporates gentle visceral techniques in her diagnosis and treatments. She will always try to look at the broader picture when assessing dysfunction, taking into consideration factors such as lifestyle stresses, before making a diagnosis. When appropriate Atlanta also uses Western (Medical) Acupuncture alongside osteopathic techniques.
As an experienced osteopath she will create an individual management plan designed to empower the patient.
Atlanta thinks of herself as an all rounder and likes to ‘find the health’ in everybody.
Atlanta will be working at the clinic on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, so please call our friendly receptionist on 01865 558561 to book an appointment with her.
